I'm a promoter by profession. I used to write a weekly
'editorial' on my old website called, "The Lab" and I guess these are
now extensions of that.
I remember writing about social networks and pissing off a
few promoters in the game. Understand that this was prior to Twitter and the
phenomenon that is now BBM.
I stated that many were not promoters before social networks
and and would be in danger if these platforms were ever to die.
Please note that I respect social networks. They have been
great for Showlove, Head Honcho and are an integral part of AKA's success. In
the same breath, we are in the streets, we are in your face, we've gone on
tour, we hand out flyers, we randomly stop at a brand manager's office to say
hi and give them a cd or invite them to our event.
There is absolutely no substitution for the personal touch
and these platforms have made us forget that. Some of you don't even have each
other's numbers... Only BBM pins yet you call each other friends.
I understand the inconvenience but it is essential to note
that these are mere tools of convenience. You need to have several tools. You
have to be able to take it old school and actually communicate.
People treated BBM crashing like Hurricane Katrina and then
the purple text and the purple text requesting no more purple text. Let's all
relax... We're still here.
Sorry to all those who spent more money on airtime over the
last few days than they did in the last six months.
Sorry to all the 'friendships' that were exposed.
You'll be fine
