I've been listening to Lil Wayne for a long time. I was forced to by my friend Ruli on our way to basketball games. Cash Money used to get him fired up and if he was fired up then I knew I could remain calm on the court and go to work... I didn't have to worry about him.
Wayne didn't make any sense to me then but I've watched dude grow and become great.
Wayne is a student of rap and a student of pop culture... He has merged the two better than any other rapper and on a more consistent level.
People give the props to Baby... Fair enough. Baby is the whip... Weezy is the engine.
The first week sales of over 900k fueled controversy... Many saying that they bought 300k albums themselves. Firstly, I do not believe this, but let's say it's true... In a modern day music business climate, Weezy would have still gone gold in his first week. Give props where props are due.
The supposedly now sober Lil Wayne hasn't lost a step. His work rate speaks for itself... There is always Wayne product out. He has given us Drake and repackaged Nicki... He is a music business phenom.
There's a silly debate about how Watch the Throne is a better album and should have sold more than Carter4. I love both albums for different reasons, but Wayne sold more because he speaks to more people. Check how the kids dress... Listen to their slang, they mess with Wayne.
