Doing the right thing

This past weekend was adventurous to say the least. Showlove Music represented at UWC, the Ses'knona launch and Zar. Head Honcho was the only local brand on the runway at the launch and I am extremely proud of this growth.

Over the weekend I also got into a fight. It's been years since I last scrapped and I prefer it that way. Fighting is not only childish but dangerous. It's good to remember that we don't all have the same to lose and some people have no qualms in taking you out the game.

I take pride in the fact that I really tried to walk away from that kid(probably 22 or so) but his new muscles gassed him up and I had to show my experience. Said it before, never start a fight but we live in a city where you do have to know how to throw and slip punches. NO TOUGH GUYS.

Over the weekend, I also upset a few AKA fans. The delays on the album do not sit well with some people. What I hope people took from my tweets is that being an independent label means things take longer than the majors... that's why they take at least 80% of your blood, sweat and tears. I'm very proud of the album and I wish I could give it away... but that's not business. As a marketer, I have to ensure that the timing is perfect and that it's an all-out AKA assault on the music business.

Above all, I have to protect him. Any mistakes made behind the scenes could fiscally damage his future. An example on one of our delays is that we've done the right thing and gone about clearing our samples. A lot of local cats don't clear samples because they think they can remain under the radar. When I began my work with AKA, my intention was never to remain under the radar. I knew that as a team, the IV League, AKA, Dj Fanatic and Showlove Music would breakdown boundaries and get a lot of attention. The Altar Ego album will not go unnoticed and we don't want Smokey Robinson to sue us in a few years. We do not want this album to be pulled from shelves... we have upset a few fans, but we did the right thing.

The album will be out before my birthday which is on August 24th... get ready.

This weekend I also had my bag stolen. The bag had my macbook,iPad and other goods. The venue where it was taken refuses to give me access to their cameras which leads me to believe that they are at fault. This is now a matter for the police and insurance... this matter also means that I will never do business with them or recommend them. They may not care, but I do because they did not do the right thing.

Do the right thing.
