Success comes with its perils and so does leadership. When you show your heart and take the strides to stand out and ensure that your dreams become reality, you will deal with a lot of negativity.
The brave are often viewed as arrogant. I mean dwell on that statement, for you to say, "fuck it, I'm going to do this!"... You have to commit to going against the grain. You have to give a middle finger to the system in place and go on about your business as you see fit. This doesn't go down well with the powers that be and your foes... Fuck them!
Almost three years ago, I became a Head Honcho shareholder and marketing manager. Some people view this as glamourous but what it was, was commitment. It was an understanding with a group of young dudes(I'm actually the oldest) that we are in this for the long haul and that our goals are global.
The other commitment was to originality. We are by no means the first local street wear brand but we undoubtedly have had the strongest pace. So much so, that we now deal with the perils of our success... We now have to deal with a lack of originality... We deal with biters.
Any creative will tell you how furious they get when they see their work being stolen or traced in anyway. Supposedly there's nothing new under the sun, well that's not entirely true. We all have the same basics, some of us have the same suppliers but how an artist approaches canvas should have varying results. Some shit is just obvious.
To the biters, firstly shame on you. Secondly, consumers are not idiots... They see through you and above all we can all have similar canvas, paint and brushes but it's either your shit is originally fresh or steady wack. Time will tell and reveal.
To the Head Honcho consumer, we will never disappoint you. Thank you for keeping us creative... There is work behind art and it requires a budget. Your support makes you our silent partner.
If you've never heard of Head Honcho, please step inside a Shesha or Sportscene store to view our diverse range. Also be sure to checkout www.headhoncho.co.za
Munch this.
