Watch the Throne

So you take the two biggest names in the rap game and put out a full, collaborative album. Sounds like money in the bank, right? Well depends on how you look at it.

By now I'm sure it's quite clear that I am a HOV fan... always have been and unless he does some seriously arb shit, I always will be. Kanye is an artist that I have watched come through the rap ranks and he truly inspires me.

Before downloading the album on iTunes, this album was already a victory for me. Look at it this way, HOV has reached 40 and he's still option A for any feature... trust me. We'll be waiting on Blueprint 39... trust me. Maintaining relevance in an era of one hit wonders is a testament that he is a rap God.

Kanye was the dude that nobody wanted to make room for, including Jay-Z(how ironic). His rise is sheer workrate and belief in self... he wasn't shot 19 times, didn't sell drugs and didn't do a stint in the bing(jail time... I can see you scratching your dome-piece in confusion). Kanye was the rap weirdo... touted for being too fashionable and accused of homosexuality. He has proven that no matter what, the music will always speak for itself and artists should stick to their guns. He is weird though.

For this album to happen, these two dudes had to exist over a decade(Kanye has been producing for a long time and this is technically his sixth album)... respect their thrones.

I am in awe of the business behind this album. With no leak and an official release only on iTunes, they built buzz without a video... we're still waiting on the actual hard copies... they have just flipped the music business model... for the better in my opinion.

I am not in love with "Otis". Production is great but I felt they were a bit lazy since they knew that the track was basically a rap en tray. The main course... I am very happy with. HOV is at his very best and Kanye sounds like he's been in rap boot camp... cats went in!

"Welcome to the Jungle", "Why I love you" and "Church in the wild" are my personal favourites. I love Frank Ocean and Mr Hudson's influence on the album and of course Beyonce does her thing. I am highly disappointed that J.Cole played no part... very!

There are mixed reviews about the album na dit shouldn't be any other way. I am happy.

Safe.

  1. Totally agree with you sentiments. Our favourites are pretty similar, throw in The Joy (Pete Rock murders the production on that track) and we in agreement...

    Nice work

  2. I agree. Album is damn dope & my favorite is definately "Welcome to the jungle"... More because unlike on the entire album, it doesn't feel like its a Kanye-West song feat Jay-Z. On this song, Yeezy stepped back & allowed Jigga to feed us that Hov rap. & swizzy got on the beat also allowing us to appreciate his unique style & not sound randant.
