What suits you

A man is defined by many things, but let's not even front... A man is definitely defined by his taste. On a personal level, I've always felt that a man makes an impression through his choice of footwear, time-piece, grooming, scent and the way his clothes fit his particular frame.

A suit is a man's ultimate showcase of taste... You cannot half-step. A great suit has to belong to you... It must be tailored. A great suit will also last you forever, my father has suits that are older than I am and they are still immaculate.

A grown man should have few suits... It's not about dressing up, it's about being a man. I have five suits and plan on having more. I prefer classic suits... James Bond is my dude. As far as variety goes, I think a dude should have two black suits(one cotton and other linen), a light-grey woolen suit, a navy,cotton,three-piece suit, a dark brown, cotton suit and a classic black tuxedo... This fabric can vary.

Of course one's personality is also showcased through a suit... Colour and fabric is essentially up to you. Tweed, plaid, velvet... Do you, homie.

I like two buttons for suits and one button for the tux... Three buttons looks like you wore the joint to your Matric dance or you just generally cannot step out of the 90s... Catch up. Double-breast means something completely different on my block but go ahead if that's you.

There are some really good tailors out there who will make you a suit from scratch, usually between R1500 to R3000... Think of this as an investment. If you purchase a suit every four months, you collection will build nicely. You own them for life.

Of course there are expensive suits in stores... If they are in your budget then do your thing. You will still need to get them tailored however. Don't simply buy a label, try it on, look in the mirror... Make it yours. Please,please,please... Remove the label on the cuff... We don't need to know that it's Hugo Boss, homie... Stop it.

Strellson and Trenery are personal favourites... Among others.

Lastly, there seems to be a huge stigma within the hip-hop fraternity when it comes to looking dapper. Rappers, your favourite rapper has a mean suit game. Let's get our rappers in GQ and on Top Billing. We can't only step it up for the Durban July. Most of you cats don't even step it up for the SAMAs... Step it up.
